In the last 15 years, Franco-Singaporean relations have increased significantly. During the last 10 years, four International Joint Units (UMI) or Laboratories were set up in Singapore. Projects are continuously being created and numerous French researchers have taken up temporary or permanent residence in Singapore. It is estimated that more than 250 French researchers are currently working in Singaporean research centers or institutions.
In 2014, the CNRS Regional Office for ASEAN relocated to Singapore from Hanoi (Vietnam), which shows the importance of Singapore placed by the international scientific cooperation community.
